Here's one of the first night pics I took. Was a long time ago - certainly everything would be wrong with it.

SpecialK, those are damn good for hand-held. My favorite is the first one.

Kardinal, those shots are remarkable! Having never been to New York City, all those buildings ... wow. But that second one is my favorite. Such a good combination of night lights and exposure. What time of day did you take it?
kardinal

toriaj, thank you.
I took this around 11:00AM. Since the entire shopping area of that hotel is covered with 'false sky' it will be dark throught the day.

Great shots SpecialK, ae86 and 500ml.
SpecialK, I liked the second one a lot because its tac sharp and colors are too attractive.

I'm undecided about this shot. Sometimes I like it, other times I don't. I wanted to keep it looking "natural," so I didn't do much PP. Do you think it works?
18mm, f/16, 2.5 sec., ISO 1600 (sorry about the resizing, the original is sharper)

Just caught up with some of these - I love night shots & there are some nice shots here well done guys. Kardinal I particularly like your NY shot thats excellent. A large blow up on the wall would be excellent.
toriaj I'm no expert to give you C&C but I think I see what you mean with that last shot. I think it would have been better if there had been more shiny areas of water in the foreground. Cropping ~10% of the bottom of the image might just help accentuate this a bit.

Hers's one I got last week in London using the TZ1. All on auto night scene so I cant take much credit for the shot really & no PP. I used a rather rounded & not quite straight hand rail in the National Gallery to try & steady it a bit but it still came out a bit soft for my liking.

Here's another very different shot from the same London trip. It's a shot of the Freddy Mercury statue outside the Dominion Theatre. I zoomed in a bit too close really looking at it now but I think it does convey some of the energy that was demonstrated in the show itself. It was a brilliant evening out a definate must see for any Queen fans out there.

Thanks, Phil, I didn't try any crops on this one. That's a very dramatic statue shot. I wonder if a slightly lower exposure would have accentuated the colors.
Nice work, everyone :)

Thanks zdzislaw, that green is spooky....
toriaj yes I'm sure you are right the exposure did look a bit off. It was a point & shoot moment as it was pretty cold & the family had been posing for a few shots by then & didn't want to hang around any more. I also had the camera on area focus & metering with a vivid colour setting, it was just how I'd been taking snapshots all day as it was pretty overcast & dull. I had a very quick play in Elements & as it was vivid to start with I've not touched the colours just decreased the brightness & boosted the contrast a bit. What do you think?
