I see that as a bad thing considering Nikon D50/D70 and Canon 350D both got gold.
The Pentax *ist DS just seems like a much better body than both of those cameras. You get a much bigger and brighter viewfinder. The LCD on the *ist DS is far superior to those two cameras also.

The nikon has slightly faster burst shooting but that's about the only thing on the nikon that's better. The *ist DS has mirror lockup, which the nikon doesn't have. Heck the D50 doesn't even have DoF preview and it got gold.

The *ist DS certainly has better build than the 350Ds cheap plastic body also.

I don't see any reason why the *ist DS should receive any less of an award than the nikon/canon counterparts.

Reviewers seem to favour the Canon & Nikon brands no matter what - maybe it's down to their marketing.

Pentax don't appear to 'push' their products in the same way - perhaps they don't offer any incentives - if you know what I mean.

Yeah it's a bummer. This gives Pentax less incentive to put on all those premiums on their cameras when consumers and reviewers again and again overlook them, and show that they don't care.

Actually, this is a large problem. The pentax DSLR is one of the best for low cost high quality glass. If they would get off their behinds and send these cameras out to be reviewed, maybe more of us would know about them.

I believe Jeff's primary criteria for reviewing cameras is that they are supplied to him. If you go to the reviews and info page: http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/cameraList.php

and look for the "R" link to a review next to the camera model, you get a hint about which manufacturers are better at marketing.

When people ask for advice, we can only recomend cameras we are familiar with. It is up to the marketing people to make us familiar with their cameras. Maybe you should get in touch with pentax, and suggest they inundate Jeff with optios and *ists. The optios tend to look good in stores, but I can't recomend them because I don't know anything else about them.

Quoted for great justice...
