Has anyone ever purchased from Amazon?

They are a very reputable company though not an expert in cameras for they sell just about everything. I think that they sell merchandise for other camera stores like J&R Music and Computer World in New York. Hah. Amazon... They charge your credit card then supply the product (in my case a book) a month later and only after two or three reminders - having paid for 3-day delivery. Highly NOT recommended.

Been shopping at amazon.com for ages and no problems, ever. Stuff shipped by a third-party has been fine as well.

I've used Amazon for GPS, power tools and books, never had a problem. Everything came quicklly and exactly what i ordered.

I've been buying stuff at Amazon for years and years...I think my purchases history goes all the way back to 98. I've never had a single problem with them so far not once. Sure the free shipping options sometimes takes a bit longer to arrive but hey its free...

I bought my Canon A85 off of Amazon as I already had an account with them and they were pretty close to the cheapest price I could find online.

Maybe its old age catching up with me but I'm getting tired of creating a new account everytime I want to try and save a few bucks from a website. I'm getting to the point where I'll only buy things online from a few companies so that I'm not zinging my CC number out to 10 new sites a month.

Anyway.....I love Amazon have no complaints.

Like the majority of reponses, I've got nothing but praise for Amazon. Always next day delivery on items that have ranged from software to memory cards to books of all sorts. They've always been honest and if the web site says "available in 24 hours" or "3 to 4 weeks" you can almost set your watch by it.

Just a word of caution though. I have heard some odd things about their e-shops I think they're called, who are retailers using the Amazon name and web site to carry out their business. I think the idea is that Amazon, who clearly can't stock everything, rely on such people to hold it for them and will forward orders on, presumably for a cut. It's like a network of retailers who are sharing the costs of web businesses and though Amazon do watch and monitor them quite intensively, some do get it wrong and Amazon get the flack.

I think it's how it works but if anyone knows for sure I'd be very happy to hear about it.

I think that's Amazon's Z-Shops and their other assorted pedlars of goods of unknown origin.

My own, personal, experience of Amazon has been poor and I shall not be doing business with them again. When I complained I'd been billed and the goods had not arrived, they had the audacity to send some coupon or other - as though I'd ever do business with them again!

I've bought everything from "soup" to "nuts" from Amazon (USA) for years now and never had a problem of any kind. Their free shipping has never taken any longer than 3 to 5 days for any items that were in stock. I'm sorry to hear that some folks in the UK are unhappy with them.

i think given the fact that Amazon has been such a strong presence in online retailing practically since its inception, i don't think there should be any major reasons for concern. i've ordered quite a few things from them over the years (even from their network of retailers) and haven't had any problems. i think they spread themselves a little thin with the great variety of products they carry, but that's the cost of convenience, i suppose.
