I just started printing pictures with this printer and they are coming out with harsh orange and brown undertones. What can I do to correct this?

Don't really know the printer. Are you printing directly from card to printer, or from on images on your computer? I'm assuming it's a photo printer. What have you done to make sure the colors on your screen are matched to your printer? I don't seem to have a problem with this, but a lot of people need to calibrate their monitor to their printer. This can be done by manual trial and error, by software trial and error (a little easier), or by using an electronic screen reader like the Spyder (pretty much automatic, but expensive). Are you using an appropriate paper for the printer? Are you using recommended inks?
Another consideration - Are the printer and the image in the same color space sRGB (Ia, IIIa), Adobe RGB? If the image and the printer are in different color spaces, this could throw your color off.
At any rate, I won't try to explain the mechanics of calibrating your monitor. If you don't want to do any research, then the software and hardware solutions are there.
BTW, my Epson R800, and more recently, R1800 both came with color space drivers to match the screen color space output to the printer. You may look at your printer drivers.
Cheers,
Eric

It turns out I had changed the color setting to 2 steps lower on the printer thinking it was lighter darker. this was before we got the proper ink and I was puxzzled making changes.
Printer is still crap. It prints perfect color pictures now with small scratch marks going accross certain parts of the picture.
