Hi,
having decided my primary camera is a Leica M6 with a Summicron 1:2/50 lens, I let go of my EOS1 with the 70-200 zoom.
Primarily because of the bulk of the EOS kit, I would now really like a digital, lightweight with equivalent zoom.
My main objective is to shoot documentation of my my wife's stage performances (she's a mezzosoprano). I'm NOT a pro photographer, i just need something digital to shoot under low light conditions, something which at least would do justice to stage lightning, decorations, and would allow me to zoom in on faces.... some of my previous work is here (http://homepage.mac.com/skiboy)
Running around some well known opera halls with pro cameras made me answer a lot of unneccesary questions and caused a lot of discomfort for other participating artists during stage rehearsals. Everyone feels more comfortable if the see I'm shooting amateur pics on a consumer camera, just for our family album.
I have studied discussions on the Lumix FZ30 vs. Fuji S9000 vs Canon whatsisname (used it for awhile and hated it) in the 500-700$ range but can't decide for myself. I do have NeatImage noise filter in my Photoshop Elements so I'm regularily dealing with noise in my 800ASA Fujii Superia exposures.
But would using a S9000 obviate the need to filter noise @800 ASA ?
I have not seen any photographs made with S9000 that resemble my kind of stage and settings to conclude.
Maybe someone has some experience with shooting digital in theaters ?
What would you reccomend ?
Thanks,
Piotr
