Would like to buy my 11 year old daughter her first camera. Looking for something, small, simple to operate (point and shoot), in the 3 - 4 mega pixel range, don't necessarily need a lot of bells and whistles (Video mode, etc.). However, I am looking for something that takes good pictures (not great, but good).

I would say her subjects will be 60% indoor (family, friends, pets) and 40% outdoor.

I own a Nikon and Cannon and have plenty of Compact Flash cards to share with her - not looking for another proprietary storage media (e.g., Sony).

Also, transfer and viewing computer software should be very easy to use. For ease of use, I prefer my Nikon viewer over the Canon viewer, but I may have older versions that have been subsequently updated and changed.

Looking to spend under $200.

Appreciate any feedback

You can't go wrong with Canon. You have a small range of Canon to choose from A400 to A520 (recently released- relatively speaking), and a couple of older Nikon for under $200 (assuming your are in the US of A). The only catch is they all use SD card instead of CF.
In fact, most new cameras now put Compact Flash on the shelf.

Any Canon Powershot from the A range before the A5xx and A6xx should do. They use CF cards.
So look out for deals on old stock of the A60/A70/A75/A80/A85/A95.

They will take very good photos though, not the reduced quality you request ;)
