Err-99 problem (350D/100-300 USM Lens)

My 350d gives an Err-99 whenever i use my Canon 100-300mm USM lens at any aperture other than f5.6. I have read a lot about Sigma lenses needing to be re-chipped but a Canon Lens :confused:

Any suggestions most welcome.
