She’s a wonderful woman – smart, talented, savvy, sexy, stylish and beautiful – and I love her madly. But last weekend, as I was taking photos in a local zoo, I discovered an undesirable quality in my mate that I’d never noticed before… she wants to Direct. With every shot, her direction became more insistent, more vocal – a combination of Spielberg, Spike Lee… and Godzilla. It was then I decided she needs a little camera of her own.

The latest issue of Cargo Magazine highlights the Casio Exilim EX-S500 ($399). It’s a 5MP very thin (half-inch) camera that comes in three designer colors – Fiesta orange, Meister gray and Nordic white. Features include antishake, a large 2.2-inch screen and several preset scene modes.

Is there another sub-$400 camera out there with similar features that I should be considering? Please help, I'm afraid I may have to use my new Feisol monopod in a defense mode ;)

Check out DPreview's own review of the EX-S500; http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/casio/exilim_s500-review/index.shtml

Have you considered the Sony T7, that's also very thin and apparently takes better pictures (as well as looking more sexy, in my opinion). What about the Fuji F10 (or Fuji F11 if you can keep your wife waiting)? The Canon SD450 is also worth considering as well.

Cheers.

That's an another thorough review by Jeff. This is a whole new world for me. I will check out the Sony, Canon and Fuji models. I think either camera in this group will give her very good performance, with enough bells and whistles to keep me interested on the days I don't feel like carting my big rig.

Thanks for the suggestions :)
