Hello,

I am undecided between following brand / models:

Canon PowerShot A610
Nikon Coolpix P2

Anyone has a suggestion? I like Nikon Film camera quality, but was under the impression that Canon rated better in digital camera group as compared to Nikon. Is that true? Which of the digital cameras from my list above compares better in quality, performance, service, and software supplied from manufacture? I can buy additional RAM or upgrade to rechargeable battery if needed so that's not a concern. Just wanted someone's opinion or experience with above listed brands and models if already owned. They are new models so if you have not used them yet then your general experience with each brand will be most appreciated.

Thanks.

J

I would clearly buy the Canon A610. But thatīs just me. The Powershot A-Series is a fuckinī good one. At the moment Iīm about to buy a Nikon DSLR, as I really love their look and feel. But for a small P&S, Iīd stick with Canon.

JThough I DO own a Nikon CoolPix 4500, an old swivel-body predecessor to the P2, I guess. I was never unhappy with the 4500, but now when I look at comparing your two choices, I see that the P2 has fewer manual controls than the Canon, which would bias me for the Canon. Some folks would prefer the Canon's AA battery selection, compared to the proprietary battery of the Nikon; makes no difference to me, I have a slight preference for the proprietary, just for the ease of carrying a compact spare around.

I see that the P2 has a "Wi Fi" connection, which, unless you really need it, sounds to me like a way of reducing your battery capacity, and also a way of increasing the camera's selling price.

I think I'm voting for the Canon.
