I went into bestbuy to check out this camera thinking it was the one i was going to buy... (im new to digital)

I was dissapointed in the time it took to take the pictures...

I put it on the sports scene and wiggled my hand in front of the lense, pic came out super blurry... where was the auto shutter?

Put it to the customer shutter setting and bumped it up wiggled the fingers again and pic came out very dark and blurry.

Besides maybe putting the pictures online faster i dont see the great deal with digital cameras, there processing time and quailty dont seem to even compare with a SLR.

Maybe it was just the power support and memory stick in the model at best buy I dunno, but i was very dissapointed and couldnt imagine dropping $500 on a camera that performed like that.... Was i doing something wrong?

Did you try doing the exact same thing with other cameras that were there, such as the Canon S2 and Sony H1? I'm sure you would've got the exact same results. You didn't mention what settings the camera was on, so that could've been an issue. Did you press the shutter button half-way so the camera could focus first, and then take the picture?

i did try holding the shutter for a second before taking the picture and it seemed alittle faster..

its not just this camera i have checked out several from best buy and just feel with all of them you have to be completely motionless, and the subject has to be still also to get a quality shot.

How are you supposed to take fast action shots when fingers wiggeling come up blurry?

I guess there are different photo taking rules from slr to digital

Sorry but if you are newbie should first start with Auto, and even after several yrs of experience youwill use 90% auto mode. I would advise you to put it on Auto, if you are inside the store use flash-you can also take some shot without flash also. I am really surprised that nobody was at store to guide you.

Sorry I did not mean to offend you. I just wrote few things to help you out. There may be some technical shortcomings on Kodak P850 but it is par with its competitors. You can check lot of pics and user reviews (not professional reviews) on this site:

Its ok im definenantly a novice :D...

I probally shouldnt even be expecting a digital camera to work as nicely and simply as my 35mm slr....

Like with a digital it looks like a tripod is a must? especially when zooming.

Nothing wrong in being novice, I was a year ago and I feel I have grown with my Kodak DX6490. Yes if you are film background it will take some time to adjust (is like switching from manual gear to auto transmission car) but film-shooters' basics are sound.
Tripod isn't must if light is enough and Image stabilization is effective-however it depends on the situation. for extreme low-light shooting having tripod is wise act.

Slightly off topic, but did you see the P-880?

Rex914-

I was in a BestBuy a few weeks back and asked if they had a ship date for the P880, the guy looked it up and it showed they had nothing on it.

This does not mean that they won't carry it tho' but here we are on 09/30/2005 and NOTHING from Kodak or any digicam site?

No review, no delay notice, etc...Dell and Amazon will let you pre-order the camera but say it's a 1-2 week wait.

I'm getting very, very impatient... :(
