Help me out here. If I shoot in RAW, will I be able to process it in Photoshop CS? If so, is it automatic or do I have to convert it to TIFF first, or do something else?

If I do not explain this real well its because I do not have a perfect understanding myself.
1.....to edit with Adobe camera raw in Photoshop you need CS2
And the support for the FZ30 is not yet available but it is reported to be close.

2...And there is a file converter to change the FZ30 file to a LC1 file and then ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) can process it but it is less than a perfect solution.

3...There is a couple programs that are over my head but will let you alter the file to tiff so you can edit it in PS but not with ACR. One of those programs is "dcraw"

4...Silkypix is a Raw editor that supports the FZ30 but is not as powerful as ACR and its expensive.

5...Rawshooter most likely will support the FZ30 soon and I like that program ..not as good as ACR but its free.

6 ..And Panasonic is suppose to have an editor soon also.

ACR is automatic and very powerful and while I think this page says you need CS2 some others disagree with me. see what you think.

One thing I can use ACR after converting to a LC1 file with CS2 and I have not heard of anyone doing it with CS.

Gene - what is the proceedure for converting the FZ30 RAW to LC1 RAW? I finally got my FZ30 and am trying things out. Tom

Here is the converter
http://users.telenet.be/kim1-6502/pics/RawFZ30toLC1.zip

Open it and then tell it to change your file to the LC1 file but its not a good way to go as it trys to make a 8mp file into a 5mp file.

It can then be opened in Rawshooter which is a good Raw editor

I got an Email from them this AM saying an update will be out soon that may support the FZ30

The raw converter will not work with PSCS only with PSCS2 or elements 3 or 4.
And if you have one of those you need the acr 3.2 and you do not need the converter
