I'm sorry to post this in the general forum, but I can't decide where the issue lies or what I can do to fix it.

I've got a new Nikon CP 8400 which I'm still getting the hang of. Often when I go to transfer a .mov file from the CF card to the desktop of my pc then remove the CF card I'm unable to play the movie even though it plays fine (from the desktop) when the card is installed.

What happens is I'll get a message saying "there is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into the drive" which I'm unable to cancel and won't go away until I reinsert the CF card. Then the movie plays ok again...
I saw one other person in the Panasonic forum was having this problem with the FZ15, but no solutions were listed...

Movie transfer issue - CF, XP, Quicktime or Nikon? None of the listed. It's the computer.
You have to download the movie file into the computer first before you can play it without having to insert the card.
When you first attach the camera or card to the computer, Windows will pop up a screen with questions such as: ... Print picture, view a Slide show, Play Vidieo, copy pictures to a folder.... etc. You should select COPY option then the video should go to My Videos directory by default.

Thanks. I'll try that. I guess it doesn't like copying by drag and drop? That's how I've been doing it.

In many cases, when you drag and drop, Windows only copy a short-cut to the file. In this case your file happens to be in the card and the computer can't find it since the card was removed.

Weel, doing it that way didn't help. In all cases I have been copying the entire file and not just shortcut. When I get this message asking me to insert a disk, I can click on "cancel" about 20-30 times and it eventually goes away and I can play the file just fine. But I will have to do it the next time I open the file as well. I think it must be something weird with Quicktime.

I assume you click on the same icon on the desktop?
First you have to ensure you upload the file successfully, and 2nd after removing the card, go to where the file is located in the computer and double click it.
