Hi.........
Can anyone tell me if the Vivitar 283 flash comes from the factory with a battery holder for 4 AA batteries? I just received a 283 today that I bought on Ebay. It came with the original box and user's manual but no battery holder.....and since there are no contacts on the inside of the compartment door, I can't even test it. I've never seen anything like this. Is this normal or was I short-changed?
Thanks,
PALADIN
I think the seller forgot to send you something, unfortunately. It does indeed come standard with a battery holder - there's no point of having one without it. Sorry! I have one, so I know.

That's the Vivitar AP-1 battery holder. Vivitar sells them separately for spares or replacements. You should be able to find them (or order them) at large camera stores.

I know this has nothing to do with your question, but you need to have the trigger voltage of that 283 checked. It is one of the flashes that may have a very high trigger voltage and can damage your camera.
Read here

and here

Please check the voltage even if you have used the flash a few times.
There have been a few people that said if you contact Vivitar and give them the serial number or place of mfg that they can tell you if it is safe .
But you can check the voltage yourself.

Gene......
I bought the Wein adaptor for it......after reading about it in this forum! :)
I bought the 283 just because it was like new and was cheap.....on Ebay.
The flash that I bought for everyday use is a great little Sunpak 144 which is designed for digi cams. :D
Thank you for the heads-up,
