I know this subject has probably come up before in this forum but I'm going to ask this question anyway.

I'm Looking for a good 1G SD card. What do you guys recomend????

I need good write speed (at least 10M/sec), and one that has a detent on the locking tab so it just doesn't float around in the groove on the side of the card.

Right now I'm looking at a Trancend 80x 1g or a Corsair 60x. Are these good ones?????

I know I've had very good luck with Corsairs Computer Memory but I've had no experience with their SD cards.

Also while surfing around on the web I saw some information related to SD speed stating that 1X = 150K/sec, so does that mean that 80X = 12M/sec?
Or are some of the speed ratings just a marketing gimmick?

Your figures are pretty much right on but the FZ cameras can only read and write at about 5mb/s so any card 32X or faster all work the same in the camera.

Not every mfg is completely honest about their speeds.
I have both a transcend and a corsair card and while mine work well there has been some complaints about the corsair and Canon cameras.

I have used all these and never had a problem.

Panasonic
Simpletech pro
Lexar 32X
PQI 66X
Kinsmax 60X
Transcend 40X
Ridata 150X
And Corsair 66X

Excuse me, genece, but I think you're not right. I have FZ20 and 1GB A-Data SD card with write speed of 15 MB/s. Storing one TIFF shot takes about 1 second, maybe 1.5 because I am not able to measure it exactly. Even if it would be 1.5s, then the FZ20 transfers data to card at a speed of 10 MB/s, not 5MB/s.

That is quite interesting as my FZ camera takes pretty close to 3 seconds to write a tiff. I also have no way for an exact measurement.

And the time is the same for a 32X card as it is for Panasonics 133X card
However if you set the picture size to1280 or 1600 you can still shoot a tiff which will write in about a second or a little more but that is a 3.5 mb file whereas if its a full size tiff its a 14mb file.

Maybe your FZ20 just writes faster than mine.

I found this to my cost. The FZ5 won't work with Corsair cards that work perfectly in an FZ20. I've had to buy a Kingston card to use the camera. So I wouldn't recommend Corsair unless you can try before you buy.

I have both the Kingmax 1gb and the SanDisk ultra 1gb that work perfectly. I love the Kingmax as I can go swimming with it. "Waterproof" :-) :-) :-(Stan

I hope you take it out of the camera before you give it swimming lessons Stan! :D

I have always had great luck with SanDisk products......both cards and card readers.

I have a 512Mb Ultra II in my FZ-20 and a 1Gb Ultra II in my FZ-30. I'm very happy with performance in both cameras. :)
