My Nikon E4300 just bit the dust, literally. I took it on one too many off-road adventures and the lense assembly needs to be replaced. I bought it after getting to know the Coolpix 900 series after a few Kodaks before that. So, as I look to replace it, I find my biggest gripe is the lack of automatic photo orientation in the Nikons and I suppose anything other than Kodak. After I take a few hundred pictures and download them, it's annoying to go back thru to change orientation. Am I the only one? I must be, as I can't find anybody outside Kodak that mentions this capability. Grrrrr.

Picture orientation? I just download all the pics, then use WinXP Windows Picture and Fax viewer to change them. <Just one click>.

Yeah, that's what I do. I guess you never have used the video out to show pics to others on a tv? Portrait, landscape, portrait, landscape. Hand out Advil to your viewing public for their necks. If you change the orientation via XP on the camera, the Nikon displays a blank screen on the edited picture.

It would be nice to have a decent computer, but I'd rather buy a better camera. My entry level dell is slower than molasses going uhill in January. Tedious is the word. Anyway, I figured I must be the minority on this issue, otherwise more would be made of it.

Oh, and while taking many photos over a week or so (camping in Colorado w/o a computer), it is one click per. If I didn't have to do it 100 times, I'd be happy. You don't need ABS brakes either, just pump 'em. ;)

Thanks,
TZ

The rebel XT does this, auto orientation, so did the A95. Unfortunately this capability is not a selling point so I don't think you hear about it that much.

The D70 already does automatic picture orientation. And, Paint Shop Pro X, soon to be released, is going to support it directly, so when you load a D70 photo into PSP, is will be properly oriented.

My panasonic FZ5 does auto pic orien. as well.. and photoshop CS2 supports it directly, and automatically shows the picture correctly when you open it :)
