Normally I keep the camera at 50 ISO to keep the noise down, and I just make sure I shoot outside with enough light.

Today I was doing some shooting inside and outside a building and everytime, it'd be a hassle (or I'd forget) to gain up the ISO accordingly, so I began to think about the AUTO ISO.

What does this mean? When does it gain up? How smart is the AI for this? What do people usually use -- manual settings or Auto? I also wish that in the EXIF information, even though it's auto, that they would say which the camera actually ended up using so that I could learn it's AI.

oh yeah, Canon S1 IS.

I too always try to keep to ISO 50 but when i have tried auto ISO i have found all the canon cameras i have used very reluctant to shift up to a higher ISO with it chosing a very and impractical slow shutter speed rather than upping the ISO.
