The new line of Canon Photo printers, due out next month, will all be using Canon's new Chromalife inks, which were designed to be fade-resistant and longer lasting. They are targeting pro photographers, and the inks will compete with Epson inks. So if you're considering the purchase of a photo printer, you should wait awhile longer. Either you'll be in line for a better deal with Canon's current models, or you'll be one of the first to try their new technology.

The list doesnt include an update to the wide carriage i9900 though, which is more than a little disapointing. My next printer will be a model that can produce 13x19 prints. If Canon cant make me happy, I'll just go to the Epson R1800, which looks pretty darn good.

I, too, expected an update for the i9900, even though since I paired the OEM inks with Ilford Classic Pearl Photo Paper (and a spray preservative) I remain satisfied for the time being. The Chromalife inks come packaged in a chipped cartridge for the new printers. So the jury is still out on Canon's decision to upgrade their cartridges.

The R1800 looks very good, but it's a whole lot more expensive than the ip8500 or the i9900 which are in discount mode right now.
