Canon Digic 1 vs. Digic 2

I was at the camera shop looking at the Canon Pro1. I'm going to be replacing my G3 probably in month or so. I liked everything about the Pro1 it size, sturdiness, pic quality, etc... Before I spend ~$650, I would like know what are the main differences with Digic 1 vs. Digic 2 processor.

I know the Pro1 has the Digic 1 processor in it.

DIGIC II is a significantly faster and supports a much better movie mode. I would hesitate to buy any DIGIC (I) models at this point unless you are willing to stick with a slower camera.

The movie mode is not a big deal to me and who knows when Canon will introduce a Pro 2 with Digic 2 processor. It could be this spring or later. Currently, I'm leaning on buying a Pro 1 based what I've read and the current price ~ $649 USD (used to be $999). Thanks for your input.

AFAIK the movie mode is not due to the digic processor, it has a separate chip, eg. look at the s1 which has a vga 30fps unlimited movie mode and have a digic1 engine.

I've used both the Pro1 (Digic I) and S2 IS (Digic II) for a couple of weeks and the S2 IS is noticeably faster in pretty much every aspect, from start-up focusing, taking pics, writing pics, viewing pics, using menus, etc.

But, having said that, I'm going with the Pro1.

Don't hold your breathe on a Pro2...get the Pro1 while you can.

personally i think that digic II offers such dramatically imporved performance, in autofocus speed, shutter lag, shot to shot speed that it's hard to go back to digic 1. i had an A95 and i loved it, but i was pretty jelous of the amazing speed of the SD300 for instance. I would never have traded it because the SD's dont have any manual modes, but there was no denying it was shockingly fatser.

After my A95 was stolen, I decided to wait until a replacement was anounced. I am so glad that replacmenet has digic 2.
