I got this off of ebay for $105. The lens should be around 40 yrs old, but these things are built like a tank!

This is what I love about this camera, ability to get a lot of old lenses for cheap.

Took a shot of my lens with my poor mans bounce flash by holding a white paper on the bottom of the flash to reflect it to the ceiling :p

I really overexposed this pic so you can see the nice coatings on these lenses. I think was lucky and got one of the few rare super takumars that had multi coatings. There is almost no reflection from the lens.

Don't really have a good test subject yet, but here's a satellite dish I took that was on my neighbor's roof. Came out pretty sharp. This shot was taken at F/8

I have a couple of these old Takumars (55 and 28), with an adapter for my Canon mount cameras and find them sharper than my "L" zooms! Looks like this one is no exception.

What's in focus is pretty sharp, but the bokeh is just horrid! I would try to save it for shots with a darker background, though even the car shot with the out-of-focus greenery on the left looks pretty funky. That's a real surprise.

Did you use any teleconverters or telescope extensions to get that moon image.
How much cropping was done?

Yeah the super takumar has a six blade aperture. I think if you shell out a bit more for the SMC takumar, you get the eight blade.. That'll give you some nice bokeh.

It was quite a bit of cropping. That pic is at about 80%. So if you made the image size 120% and expanded the canvas to 3008x2000, that'll be the size of the original.

No teleconverters with that moon image. Just the 300mm by itself. I did quite a bit of USM in photoshop though!

I got a 2x teleconverter from the spotmatic I got from ebay. It's a cheap one. Here's a shot of the moon with it. I like the waning gibbous angle more still than the full stil :p

I had to size it down to almost 50% to get it to that sharpness. Almost negates the purpose of the teleconverter. But it still looks a bit better.
It's great for my 35mm spotmatic, where I can't do digital cropping.
