Please refer the attached photo. A number of images taken on flash with my new Powershot A400 have random circular spots in the image. I have a number of example shots of this happening.

I also have a Powershot S1 and saw this happen once, the day the lens either had rainspots on it or was dirty, on cleaning the lens the problem has never recurred.

The shop says they have seen this kind of problem once before, on a Sony camera, that it was internal reflections inside the camera. The circles in that case contained reflections of an internal circuit board.

The Canon service centre in Australia says they have tested the CCD and found no fault. It seems to me they missed some obvious points:

* That all the photos were taken with flash

* That other models of Canon had problems with dust getting into the lens and affecting image quality

At this time I should say I have no knowledge of the dust problem that affected earlier model Canon cameras. I do however have the law on my side in NZ, especially since it is a brand new camera and has shown the fault since new.

The camera is kept in a zipped bag for 90% of its life and has not had the opportunity to be exposed to dust.

Apart from this problem I am very happy with the camera's performance, but at this stage Canon has fallen down on customer service. However I still have to go back to the retailer to see what Canon's excuse for not fixing the camera or replacing it on the spot is.
