why does a site like lensmate only have tele lenses up to around 1.7x:

when you can find them up to 3x on ebay?
(see item number 7538933314 for eg.)

are the ebay ones "cheap"? i.e. lots of barrel distortion, vignetting problems or something?

would like to get the maximum zoom lens but not at the cost of image quality.

Frankly I would not trust lenses sold on eBay as I'm not sure of the quality. Would rather go to a proper store to check them out :)

I too was looking into it and found that all the lenses that were cheaply priced were really bad quality and also found that all the 3x lenses were really more suited for lower powered zoom cameras like ay 3 or 4x zoom
I think the reason why the lenses at lensmate are all up to about 1.7 because that is what is reccomended as suitable for a 12x zoom camera
but after a leap of faith I purchased my raynox lens and it rocks here is a like to my raynox DCR-2020 Pro test
