hi there dcresource forum members ! i'll be short because i know what the reviews say ,i just need to hear your thoughts too , and i would be very thankfull if you would help me .

PROBLEM : So , between the sony f 717 and the panasonic fz30 ?

*prices are quite the same, size doesn't matter that much ,none does the MP number, and i'm happy with a 5x zoom too (the ultra zoom isn't a neccesity for me) ...

! problem is that i have a big SD card allready but i want my new camera to have a good battery life and most of all - picture quality ...

QUESTION : Do you think that it worths spending some extra money on the f 717 and a new sony memory stick for that extra image quality and battery life , wich the new panasonic fz30 doesn't have ?
so , picture quality& battery life vs. big8mp & ultra zoomIS ?

thank you once again !

Sony F717? You know that that camera is very old and has left the shelves for a long time. Even its successor the F828 has been out for 18 months and has disappeared from all mainstream B&M stores. Moreover, it's superceded by the offerings from other companies right now.

There's no direct parallel to the FZ30 right now. There's the Fuji S9000, but it lacks IS. Then you step down to the $500 range where you have the FZ20, Canon S2 IS, Sony H1 etc.
