In a preview I saw, next week Staples' flier (Aug 21st) will have Adobe's Photoshop Elements 3.0, $89.99 - 30.00 (most likely a rebate, but Staples on-line rebates are a piece of cake) for a total of $59.99. I've been thinking about getting it. Now I'm thinking a lot harder. :-)

I've been using ThumbsPlus, but would like better editing tools, especially for red-eye reduction.

It's a nice deal on a very good program. But as soon as you've mastered it, you'll probably set your sights on Photoshop CS2. Adobe knows what it's doing. It offers the "entry/mid level" photo editor for people like me who felt kind of intimidated by the big, bad PS... or for those who can't justify the high price of full-strength PSCS2. So Elements whets our appetites and Adobe stands by patiently waiting for the first moment that Elements "can't do that." THEN they've gotcha. Well, at least, that's how they got me :)

Maybe, but not if it's still in the $500 and up range! I'm mostly a family shooter (2 girls, 3 months and 2 years) so I'm not looking for super high grade stuff.

I got PSE 3.0 yesterday. Turns out there's no rebate, it's just $59.99. I did notice that a lot of the promotional material that comes with it expires the end of August... Hmmm, wonder if that means 4.0 comes out in Sept? :)

I've only just begun to play with it, but already I love the tags and the "calendar" view. Once I get my recovered pictures This Thread (http://www.dcresource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11188) I'll start tagging and re-organizing everything.
