View Full Version : How do "you" download pics from your Power Shot S2?
I seem to be having a connection problem between my camera & my laptop (running XP-Pro, SP2) when using the provided USB cable. Was wondering if anyone here has experienced this and how you went about correcting the problem?
I can read the flash card with my Dazzle card reader thought without any problems.

Have you installed Canon software Zoombrowser? With the Canon driver's, there is no problem for downloading pics and video.

I ust use my existing Photoshop. I pug the camera into the PC (via the usb) and photoshop recognizes and pulls the pics in.
Love me some Photoshop!!

Also, it is possible to use GetCanon! freeware utility, which can download images automatically to some predefined folder. (S2 is supported from version 1.6 beta)

In my excitement I plugged in the camera into the USB port before having installed Canon’s bundled software (of course I hadn’t read the quick setup guide yet).
XP recognized the camera and installed the driver but the image acquisition dialog box opened empty, not pointing to any software (for example the standard windows image acquisition software). I thought that was strange so then I installed Canon’s software but it didn’t help… I was thinking back to my old Sony Digi Cam that didn’t require any additional software for connecting to the computer.
I tried uninstalling the software and driver and then re-installing but nothing’s helped so far. Direct plug-in still doesn’t work.
I suspect when I un-installed the driver not all the dll's were completely removed. I might have to manually search and delete them before trying again. Will eventually figure it out.
will have to read it later tonight.

To "control" your tests, you must systematically eliminate the variables. Your first step should be to plug the camera into another computer...preferably one running Windows XP SP2...the camera should be immediately recognized and should show up in "My Computer" and the pictures should be viewable without having to install any software or drivers. If you still cannot see the pictures, then you must eliminate the SD card as the culprit and try it again with a different SD card (like the one supplied with the camera). If it still fails, you need to try a new cable. If after all of that and you still can't see the pics, then it is most likely the camera...
