Hello Everyone,

I owned the Canon S1IS and brought it back for repair and Best Buy doesn't sell it anymore. My question is, is the changes sunifacant from the S1 to the S2??? I had some disappointing moments with the S1 such as blurry pictures and the picture quality was very poor. The most disappointing was the indoor shots. They were very poor. Or should I bit the bullet and get the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20? What I liked the most about the S1 was the movie mode. It was amazing.
All of your opinions are appreciated.
Thanks...

I'm No expert, but my S2IS seems to work great. I do get blurry pics now and then, but I usually find it's because I didn't adjust the settings to match the conditions.

The S2 does seem to like lots of light, though, so consider trying to use the flash more. If you don't like the way direct flash looks in your photos, it's not too hard to rig a temporary 'bounce' surface to redirect the flash upward or use something to diffuse the flash when it fires.

And yes, the movie mode on the S2 is awesome. Chews up a lot of memory at full-size, but it's worth it.

Overall I'm quite happy with the S2. I've only had it 2 weeks and am still learning how to use it properly, but when I do I'm getting great photos. If you're still concerned, though, and you like the other camera you mentioned, go for it. But the S2 is definitely a significant upgrade over the S1.

My dad bought the S1 a few months before I got my S2. We both love 'em. Yep - I'm getting some blurry/grainy pictures - but I'm chalking that up to operator error while I'm still learning all the bells and whistles on this thing. The low-light focusing on the S1 however, is well-documented and is a bona-fide 'issue.' This issue is fixed with the S2 - there's an AF assist lamp built in. IRT the indoor shots you mentioned, there is another thread going right now about indoor shots with the S2. Check it out. (http://dcresource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11273)

What I liked the most about the S1 was the movie mode. It was amazing.Uhhh... Dan. If the movie mode was what you liked the best, then why are you even considering the Panasonic? The S1 and S2 movie modes currently beat the crap out of ALL the competitors!! (Before you Sony H1 users flame me... can you ZOOM while you shoot video?? :D )

Dan, get an S2 and don't look back. You won't be sorry. Just take the time to LEARN it and listen to the advice on this forum. There are some real experts out there (not me).
