Just purchased myfirst camera ever & have a few starter questions.
1. Is it better after the battera is charged for the first time to fully deplete it before recharging again, or can it be recharged at any time to bring it up to full power. Just wondering if either way will extend its life.

2. Is the quick start guide to taking pictures & the small book that comes with it sufficient to start playing around or is it a good idea to read the complete PDF version of the manual on the CD.

3. Once the battery is fully charged, how long can it sit before it has to be recharged again.

4. There is a big meteor shower that is going to be visible early here in SE Ontario Canada around 3 - 5 am EST on Friday. Any ideas to my settings & how to capture any pics of this, tips etc. I will have a tripod by tomorrow.

With newer battery technology it's no longer necessary to completely drain and re-charge the battery. Not sure how long it can sit before it becomes discharged, although I haven't noticed any issues. The battery does not last for too long on my 770, bought a second battery just in case.

Reading the manual on the CD will help a lot, but the camera requires a bit practice to figure out how to get a good picture.

A meteor shower could pose a problem, never tried it though. You'll need to figure out the manual mode, just pointing and shooting will cause disappointing results.
