U.S. purchase compatable iin U.K.?

can you tell me if i buy sony cybershot (P32 or P52) still digital camera in the united states will it connect to my television over here in the U.K. so i can veiw my photo's. I know the obvious problem would be the electrical charger lead but if i get an adapter would all the other functions on the camera work ok? Thank you.

I'm certainly not an expert but one thing would bother me. The US uses a different TV system to the UK. If memory serves me correctly, it's NTSC in the US and I know it's PAL in the UK.

Some DVD systems can detect which it is and automatically make adjustments but I'm not at all sure that digital cameras can do the same sort of thing. I would have thought that the output would have to be matched to the country it's intended to be used in but I don't know if it can be switched.

However, if you're not bothered about the TV system - and you can get round that of course - then there shouldn't be too many other problems for you.

Usually there is a menu setup item to allow you to switch between North American and PAL statdards. You might go visiting relatives and want to show it there after all.

I have cameras that I purchased in the UK for use in the UK - UK editions but they always seem to have US leads to plug into US televisions. I have yet to see a UK digital camera coming with leads capable of plugging into UK televisions.

For all the idiots at digital camera factories... the UK television takes a single coaxial cable that goes in the back - not a funky twin lead.

That twin lead you refer to is the standard way of getting audio and video signals to a monitor. This puts the signals directly to the picture tube and speaker of the TV, bypassing the TV's tuner. The coaxial cable brings in broadcast signals, and then they go through the TV's tuner before they end up on the screen. Digicams do not have RF modulators in them, so the signals they send out are just audio and video. If you want to view your digital photos on a TV that does not have separate audio and video inputs and has only the coaxial jack, you will probably have to run the a/v cable to the inputs on a VCR and then take the signal from the VCR to the antenna input on the TV and view the pictures on channel 3 or 4.
