This may be the dumbest thread ever posted, but I started to think about the gigapxl project where they have a 1,000 MP camera and are working on a 4,000 MP camera. I began to think how to make such a camera. Then I thought, would it be possible to rig up some lenses with a conventional paper scanner to create a ultra high pixel camera? Granted it would have extremely slow "shutter" speed, but would this even be possible?
On the other side of the coin, why don't scanner manufacturers make scanners that can take the whole picture in one shot like a camera does?

I can't answer your question about making scaner into a camera. But I can answer why scanner manufacturers don't make scanners that can take a whole picture in one shot.
In order to do that, take a picture of a 8.5x11in page, the sensor inside the scanner would have to be 8.5x11in or bigger. That would result in scanners being overly expensive. So they usullay use one stripe of ccds or cmos's and move it across the Paper or field. Immagine a stripe of high quality 8mp sensors like in some of the camera's now, Immagine the price...thats what you mostly pay for in a scanner/camera
Im sry if that made no sence. lol

I found this Casio YC-400 which appears to be a "camera" scanner.

When I proposed the idea of having a scanner that would take a whole page in one shot, I did not mean to have a 8" X 10" sensor. I meant to have a typical 5 MP sensor from a point and shoot and set it up to take pictures on a flatbed instant scanner device. The resolution would not be as high as a scanner of course, but the idea is high speed.
