View Full Version : Need some shooting tips!!
I'm using a Canon IXUS 700 (SD500) digital camera. I'm having "trouble" taking portrait pictures that suppose to blurred the background. It did not turn out that way at all. Is there any shooting tips that can make it work? I know you can do that easily with a SLR by adjusting the aperture.

Because the SD-500 is really a point and shoot digital camera with very few manual adjustments. The things that you can do to blur the background are indeed limited. Here are the options:
(1) Go to the scene modes and select portrait.
(2) Use natural lighting, use some mid range zoom, and avoid using flash, this will force the SD-500 to use a larger aperture.
Please keep in mind that a blurred background, a technique that is often found in portraits us a function of aperture and lens focal length.

Please understand that in a digital camera designs such as the SD-500, you get wonderful photos but you have no controls to speak of at all. Therefore what you can change is extremely limited.
All you really have available to create change are the scene mode and a bit of ISO.
