I own a sd500, I have read many complants about cracked lcd's and "hum" in the movie mode. Here is my story, a few days ago I dropped my camera with the lens extended on a hard tile floor, the lens was bent a bit to the right, I thought I was out of luck, 1st the lcd was fine, 2nd after carefully pushing on the extended lens I got it to retract, after working on the camera for about 1/2 hour (I'm no good at fixing things) wow back to new, everything is working fine, I can only say I'm one happy Canon customer, this is one tough little camera. I know canon is not the cheepest, but you get what you pay for.

I too have just purchased an SD500. I got it last week and am really happy with it. I haven't dropped it (thank goodness) but I did spill a little bit of water on it... the zoom lever/shutter button barely got wet, thank goodness (again) that it's working fine today. I too have noticed no whine or hum in video other than the ambient noise around me. Now, I just have to learn how to take better pictures. I have learned that a 7 megapixel camera doesn't mean that you will become a better photographer, that my friends, takes skill, patience and talent!
I too am a happy Canon customer. My previous camera was an A40. I'm glad I upgraded!

I, too am happy with Canon. Estatic, actually...
I have a Powershot s30, a G5, and my sweet little s410. The latter I took on a 6 week road trip. Aout halfway into the trip, I too dropped my camera, lens extended, onto a granite countertop, then onto the granite flooring. I nearly cried. I had my heart in my throat for what seemed like an hour. I turned it off and on several times (the first time, it looked like my CF card was empty--a 1G CF card with half my vacation gone?!) and it worked fine. Except for a tiny (and I mean tiny) mark on the edge of the lens, you would never know it took such a fall. The only thing I notice it that there is a lag-time (very short) every now and then when I depress the shutter.
Thanks for reading my 4 cents...
Take care,
Kristy
