I bought my camera from dell back in december 2004... just a week ago, I got the dreaded e18 error after a long period of no use (I was in school). I kept the camera in the original box and inside the bubble wrap, just like how it arrived. I don't get why it got the message. I have never dropped it and I have rarely taken it out of the bubble wrap. Whenever I have the camera out, I would keep it in the canon case. I didn't even take that many pictures =/ less I would have to say I've taken less than 100 pictures. I turned the camera on and off as suggested by the manual. It fixed it. However, now I am having some problems with focusing.
Initially after I turn the camera on, I would have no problem focusing. However, if i switch from macro mode to regular mode and zoom in and out, the camera would refuse to focus and it would just beep and take blurry pictures.
I have read other posts about people getting the e18 problem and it seems to me like my camera is following the same steps.
My question is whether I should call dell and tell them about my problem and see if they can do anything about it or call canon. Personally, I am not very happy with the camera. Although it is still under warranty, I think that if a product malfunctions during the warranty period just suggests to me how reliable it will in the future. I am especially afraid that even when I do get a replacement from canon, it will just be a refurbished product that had the same problem.
Thanks,
Jack
