View Full Version : A200 - bulb or not?

The manual for the A200 says there is a bulb mode. 30 sec max may not be bulb to some, but they also say the word "bulb" will show up if you scroll shutter speed display far enough. But it doesn't for me. It just says 30". Can anyone else get the display to show "bulb".

By the way, can a cord shutter release be used (sorry I can't think of the actual term for the screw-on shutter release cable thing)?

Or can the remote hold the shutter open for 30 seconds?

Thanks

I can get it to say bulb by changing the mode to M. But I can't get it to expose for longer than 30 seconds.

Anyone know if you can use a shutter release cable so as to avoid touching the camera on long-exposure tripod shots?

According to this you can.

When you take photos with the DiMAGE DiMAGE 5/7/7i/7Hi or DiMAGE A1/A2/A200 or the Dynax 7D using a tripod, you can release the shutter with the remote cable RC-1000S (50 cm long) or the RC-1000L (5 m long). These cables also reduce the chance of photos turning out blurred, as they eliminate the camera shake caused by pressing the shutter release button with very slow shutter speeds. The cable releases are also very useful for flat artwork reproduction, studio photography, and when the camera is used in unusual vantage point (for example on a very high tripod or in an inaccessible place).

From what I can tell from the A2 manual, the cables needs a special port to plug into that is not on the A200, so I guess that we are out of luck.

Thanks Colt,

I also saw a reference to one on the imaging-resource.com A200 review but the A200 manual, as far as I can tell, only mentions using the wireless remote. I'll have to try it. No reason it shouldn't work just as well as a cable I guess (since we are living in battery hell already anyway).
