View Full Version : Anyone gotten the S2 from Amazon (new deal)?

Amazon has the S2 for $439.94, shipped free, no rebates or anything. This is very close to equivalent (for me) to what the Dell deal was ($499 - 15% = $424.15 - $60 coupon = $364.15 + $31.25 tax (I live in Texas) = $395.40. So it's about $45 more, but that's still worth it to me if it gets here before September 3rd (the day I need it).

Anyway, I'm thinking about popping for it, but it says "in stock soon" as opposed to actually having a date on there. Anybody ordered this deal yet, and what kind of ship date did you get sent?

BTW - when you first go to Amazon, it'll show you the "Crutchfield" or "OneCall" or "J&R" price, which is $499.99 - you have to click on the "Amazon.com <add to cart>" link on the right hand side to get the actual Amazon.com price. This threw me for a minute; I guess they do that when they don't have the item actually in stock.

Beware. I've heard some poor things about Amazon, as it isn't always Amazon that is actually selling the product. Don't know about cameras, but several fellow MBA students ordered their textbooks thru amazon and they were never delivered. You should check this out further at resellerratings.com.

I saw the camera for $434 at Amazon if you buy it from them. I find Amazon itself to be a great on line merchant. Just be sure as the previous poster said, that it is coming from Amazon itself.

That's basically why I indicated you have to select the "Amazon <add to cart>" on the side.

I believe Amazon's standard practice is that if they don't themselves have the object in stock, they throw you to one of their "sub vendors" unless you specifically select THEIR link on the right hand side. That is something of a gotcha especially if their "sub vendor" is something less than reputable, and you have make sure you notice on your check out whether something is coming from Amazon or not.

I'm just curious as to what the wait time is on the item though...If I can get it before September 3rd, I'm going to pull the trigger...I had to cancel my Dell order (placed July 4th) because they told me the ship date was September 30th, but went ahead and shipped me the "weenie" rider item I had added to make the order eligible for the $60 off coupon and charged my card for the FULL amount (grrrrrr).

Well, we'll see how this works out - I ordered it. As I said before, I need it before Sept 3rd (a big Birthday party I need to shoot for posterity). I figured that if it hasn't shipped by about August 26th, I'll cancel my order.

On the web site, before I hit "place order" it told me the shipping date was estimated at between Sept 6th through Sept 19th. That's fairly close to what I need, I figure they might get it to me earlier than that. So I placed the order and went to "Order summary" and it said "Delivery Estimate: Sept 17th - Sept 30th" WHAT? Then I realized I went for the "Super Saver shipping" which is 5-9 WEEK days to get here...so I'm going to switch it to "2 day express" or something... We'll see what happens.

Is this camera so darn popular these big retailers can't keep them in stock??? Sheesh. EVERYBODY seems to have the Sony H1...

[ADDED a few minutes after post]
LOL - I changed the shipping method to "2 day Shipping" - the Shipping Estimate changed to "August 30 - September 13", and the Delivery changed to "September 1 - September 15". At least I'm in the RANGE of possibility now :) I ask you - why would going to the more expensive shipping option change the SHIPPING date???

Hope springs eternal. When last we left our hero 3 days ago, , he had ordered his S2 from Amazon knowing the estimated delivery date was between Sept. 1 and Sept 15th.

Diligently checking the Amazon site once per day, he was shocked this morning to find...it had shipped yesterday! WOOT!

...or perhaps not, I'm a little confused. I ordered it 2-day express, it's coming in 3 day Select on UPS. Shipping date does indeed say "Aug 4", and tracking info shows it making it's way towards me, but Estimated Arrival says "Sept 15"...what, do they get to PICK which 3 days it moves? :)

Wow, does this sucker have a lot of features on it I'm going to have to learn; the wife was a little worried about all the bells and whistles on it. I'm going to have to figure out how to set it up for her best so she can get the action photos of our little one while I'm at work.

That is the worst lens cap I have ever seen.

Zooms in and out almost too quick, takes a lot of getting used to.

Ordered a "Patriot" 60x 1GB SD card for it; that 16MB card that comes with it is so ridiculous they shouldn't have bothered.

Too busy playing with it to talk anymore. :)
