No, I like the D70 just fine. However, someone decided they liked it so much, they broke into my home and stole it, along with my wife's Canon S60, my old Canon A1, my computer, my scanner, my Epson R800, our DVD collection, and too many other items to list here.

OK, I've decided to add a digit and get the Epson R1800. I really liked the quality produced by the R800, and the R1800 has the larger size, a few nice upgrades, and the same inks. I briefly considered the R2400, but it doesn't have an option for the gloss enhancer, so you really must use matte paper. That and more than double the cost. Plus, I already have a bunch of spare ink that will work in the R1800, but not the R2400.

My wife wants a comparable replacement to the S60. She likes the 28mm wide end and the small size. I like the compatibility of the CF cards. The question is, should we go with the S70 to get the extra resolution? The only cameras I've found that are similar and have CF compatibility are the Nikon Coolpix 5400 and the Olympus C-7070. The 5400 suffers poor buffer and autofocus performance, but has a wider zoom range. The C-7070 is bigger and heavier, but has a wider zoom range.

I may wait to replace my D70. I haven't decided to whether to get the D70s or see if the "D200" comes out at this year's Photokina (I think that's the show in September). I guess it depends on how "anxious" I get.

Cheers,
Eric

Argh! Hope you had insurance, though that will only help replace the material, not give you back your sense of security.

This (http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=7-6468-7844) has been linked to before. I don't know much about the other candidates for your wife, but that is some pretty good advertising.

Good Luck,

Clyde

Insanely Jealous - I like the way that printer sounds on paper...

I don't think she'd be unhappy with s70 - a lot of guys over on FM use that camera when their SLR gear is just too much overhead... and have been very pleased with the results.

Good luck with the claims process as it can be a patience tester. I hope you and your wife have a smooth process. Sorry to hear about the break in.

Thanks. :)

We're pretty well covered, with replacement coverage less $250 deductible and riders for stuff that would have been limited. I looked at the C-8080. It's a nice camera, but it doesn't fit her purse the way the S60 / S70 does. I did mention the C-7070 to her, but even that's substantially bigger. The reality is there aren't many cameras that do both CF and 28mm equivalent and have the small size, so the S70 looks like a winner. Sort of validates the original decision to get the S60.

Eric

Now I just have to find the desk space...

USAA is a pretty good company (I knew there was a reason for being in the military all those years). I did kind of get into it with the adjuster over the car. The evil-doers  took the spare car keys, with fob and a house key. USAA will replace the locks on the house, plus the fob and car key, but they won't pay to replace the locks on the car, even though they are the insurance provider. Now, if the car gets stolen, then they will cover that. Go figure.

Cheers,
Eric

Wasn't that a D2X that was stolen? Might as well spend that deductable wisely. ;) Seriously it is a bummer. Hope you can replace most of it. Potential theft and fire are the reasons that I keep my photo archives in a separate place.

One of these days I complete putting my archive favorites up on smugmug as well...

...yeah right.

Anyway it looks like we will miss you pictures for a while.
