i have a a85,and when i plug the usb into windowxp and use the popup program windows has it transfers all my images to jpg's,but if i goto mspaint and import it makes a much larger(file size) bmp,is the bmp better quality,or just a larger size file?and if so can i make the windows popup import my images as bmps rather then jpg?

BitMpas are very large, and as far as I'm concerned, their quality is lower than a JPG. I would just leave them as JPG. The file size for BMP files is a huge problem, so things like emailing them and saving them on a CD is very limiting. Furthermore, when resized or touched up, the BMP's don't take to it as well as a JPG.
Best thing if you're looking to edit your pictures or are looking for something like MSPaint, you use the software that came with your A85 (ArcSoft Image Editor I believe). MSPaint is a very very poor program to use, and will do more harm than good.
I don't know if that helps, but the overall advice is stay away from BMP files.
