canon sd 500: everytime i want to take a picture in my home my camera shake icon turns on and my pics are ALWAYS blurry in natural light (lots of it). to make matters worse, im usually taking pictures of my 3 month old baby! is there any way i can take pics of him (in action), with natural light so that the flash is off? when i turn the flash on, the pics turn out sharp, but the colors are way off - too yellow. do i HAVE to get a tripod? ;(
thanks!

Tripod, monopod or get more light on your child to get a better shot. Not familiar with your camera so don't know if it has a manual white balance. If it does set it for tungsten when indoors. Couple of cheap reflector lights, clamp on type you can get in hardware at WalMart or some such place will help light up your pictures. I still remember the days of 8mm video and the, seems like 1,000,000 watts of light, that dad shined in our faces.

Woffles was 100% correct. If you do not like the color rendition when using flash it sounds like your white balance needs to be reset for the flash. Please check the camera manual, but it most probably calls for a tungsten white balance setting when using flash. That is the easiest solution. The other solution is that you can adjust the colors in a good photo editing program.

Taking photos of your baby inside, using just the existing room lighting is dependent on two things. The amount of light, and the ISO setting that you are using on your digital camera. Please keep in mind that when there is indeed less light, as in the circumstances you describe, you are going to have to increase your ISO speed so that the camera can take photos with less light.

Take a look at the attached digital photo, please. It was taken without flash. You will notice that all action is stopped and the photo is not blurry. The reason for that is this: I increased the ISO speed within the camera so that the camera, a Fuji F-10 in this case, was able to take the photo without flash. If I had not increased the ISO setting, the photo would have been both dark and blurry.
