This was a real toughie for me. Today's limitation was range. My camera's focal lengths span a measly 38mm-76mm, far below what's needed for decent zoo photos. I did manage to scrounge a few decent pics out of the 170 I took. But keep my camera's limitations in mind and realize that this is as close as I could get.

I was quite envious of all the 20D's and XT's buzzing about, but I was scratching my head over the lens choices I saw. Why were people lugging around Tamron 28-75's for example? Beats me... Does anybody care to explain why I wasn't seeing any telephoto lenses around?

Anyways, here are the first 2. I decided to make them into compilations of several photos this time.

Read the next post for the part I enjoyed the most by far...

This is the part I enjoyed most. I'll post up the pictures and compose a little story out of them as people do on FM. (Warning, big pics!)

The Situation - The penguins are about to be fed.

1) The penguins congregate in the "dining hall" and wonder what will be served for afternoon snack.
2) It's almost feeding time, and some penguins zip in at the last minute.
3) Looks like it's time to eat. Reminds me of the starting line for a marathon.

4) The penguins are fed one by one. The zookeeper calls them by name and by number, and each one has a specific amount of fish and type of fish alotted.

5) The seagulls are true opportunists and grab any fish that the penguins reject or fail to get.
