Folks-

I would like to draw your attention to what some people consder to be the very best point and shoot digital camera on the market today. That digital camera is the Fuji F-10, which sells on the internet for less than $(US) 300.

No, I don't get anything from Fuji at all. But as a professional photographer, lecturer and author of three digital camera books, this camera is unusual enough that you really should know about it.

There is a great digital camera review on the Fuji F-10 by our own Jef Keller right on this website. Please take a look at it. It is well worth your time to read it. Jeff calls the photo qualaity of the Fuji F-10 "...excellent..." and in his review he compares photos taken by the $(US) 300b Fuji F-10 to those of the Nikon D-70 $(US) 900+. Truly it is worth a read, folks!

And for those that would like to see a sample of what the photos from the Fuji F-10 really do look like, please take a look at the attached digital photo.

In the end the choice is entirely up to you. However, I just wanted you to see what the Fuji F-10 can really do.

Before I decided that I wanted an ultra zoom model, the F-10 was actually a camera that I was looking at. Could please you comment on the F-10's macro mode vs. the Canon S2's macro mode?

Paul-

Just suppose that you were confirming your cruise reservation on 09/24. It would look like this because it was taken with the Fuji F-10. I took this photo this afternoon. Yes, it is a real photo. Would you like to go with us? Well, you will have to deliver 5 hours of digital camera lectures. Are you ready?

I don't know about best, but most influential may be a more fitting term. I'm predicting that a lot of the other companies will develop similar technologies to Fuji's super CCD that will lead to these improvements across the board, particularly in prosumer cameras and more expensive compacts first and then filtering down all the way into the sub $200 cameras.

For cameras like the upcoming FZ30, successful experimental technologies like Fuji's could make the difference between a truly successful camera and one that could have been a smash hit.

The much hearlded Olympus Stylus 800 has been billed as another revolutionary digital camera with 8mp of resolution and a high ISO capability.

I should have one by the end of next week, so we will see what it can do, and how it compares with the Fuji-10. Cameras like these two could very well change the direction of point and shoot digital camera design.

Here is a nice Fuji F-10 sample for you.

the ISO 1600 images are nice when viewed at no larger than 4x6. I took some high res shots and printed them out at 300dpi.
This is the first step in the right direction, so it makes me happy.
I wish the Panasonic LC1 had ISO 1600. I would get it in a heartbeat as a backup/travel digicam.

I'm looking forward to hearing about this one. If it can deliver what it promises, all those 8 MP cameras won't seem so bad after all. ;)

Rex and Obijuan-

The Fuji F-10 and the Olympus Stylus 800 may well change some of the basic design premises now being used within the P&S digitals, and signal a real change in the cameras being offered in the future.

Personally, I love keeping up with trends and trial balloon digital cameras. That is why, I ordered the Olympus Stylus 800. I need another P&S like a hole in the head, but determining if cameras can really do what the claim is fun.

By the first week in August, I should have some good samples for you. Here is another high ISO photo taken with the Fuji F-10.

Rex-

I just read that one of the 24 scene modes available on the Olympus Stylus 800 is called "cusine!" Perhaps that might be helpful to you.

Are so called Scene Modes important to You?

There are now two rather revolutionary digital cameras in the point and shoot marketplace, that will most probably set new prescendents and affect the design and manufacture of many point and shoot digital cameras that we will see in the future.

Those two digital cameras are the Fuji F-10 and the Olympus Stylus 800.Theyare point and shoot digital cameras capable of using high ISO numbers.

Like it or not, those two digital cameras will affect the point & shoot that come after them for at least two years.

Hang in there Folks-

I checked this morning (07/25) and the Olympus Stylus is supposed to be delivered to me on or about 08/01. So, as soon as I get my hands on the Stylus 800, you will have photos and comments.

I have had several readers comment that they prefer the color rendition of the Fuji F-10 to that of the Olympus Stylus 800.

I readily admit that they do indeed handle color differently. So I guess it all really is a matter of personal choice. The important thing to keep in mind is that the Fuji F-10 is basically a fully automatic point and shoot digital camera that has a high ISO capability.

The Olympus Stylus 800 on the other hand has full manual controls and it has the Olympus "read" on color rendition. Just realize that they are different.

Here is another Fuji F-10 sample for you.

Isn't interesting that while the Fuji F-10 can go to ISO 1600 with little or no noise, our intrepid investigators have found that the Olympus 800, which is advertising the equal ISO 1600 ISO capabilities is using some kind of wierd proprietary scheme to get their digital camera to go toISO 1600 ISO.

Is this really fair??

hello-

A few readers of the Forum have expressed the opinion that while the Fuji F-10 can produce knock your socks off Night photos, does it really do well with just your average snapshot conditions?

Well, take a look at this shot, taken right off our back deck with the F-10. That is really as much of a snap shot as you will probably get.

Well in the f-10 gallery, there are a couple iso 1600 shots...the lion king production.
