Who says the Bigma can't do macro? *wink*

those look great, but the flowers are pretty large.
True macro would be 1:2 and larger.

Try making an ant that big, or zoom in and focus on a stamen only. ;)

lol yeah...that's why I called it "macro...sort of." :D

I'm still pretty happy with this lens overall. Wish it was faster but hey for under a grand I can't complain too much.

the convenience of having that range is worth any untrue macro ability.
Normal - super massive, ultra telephoto.

It would be nice if they made it sharper and increased the contrast. I would get one. ;)

I find it nicely sharp at f/7.1 and above. It's soft at 5.6 though which sorta annoys me...I bought a Slik monopod (set to arrive Tuesday) from B&H so I'm a bit anxious to try it out that way too. The tripod is a bit awkward since it's not as free-form. It's up or down, left or right...not too easy to tilt with quickly. I look for even sharper pics while stopping down to maybe f/12-14 on some daylight photos...hopefully even with slower ISOs...the XT seems to look good at 400 and 800 but 1600 is pretty grainy on the Bigma - even moreso than on the kit & 50mm 1.8.

I have a decent Manfroto 681, with BG484 ball-head, and I don't leave home without it. I walk a lot and it's much better than hasseling with a tripod.

You will find that investing in Noise Ninja will greatly improve your results and outlook at higher ISO's.

Also once you pass the sweet spot (on almost any lens) the picture tends to get softer. In most cases the sweet spot range is about f8 to f16. A really good f2.8 may extend that to about f4.
