Okay so here's the deal. My camera has the latest firmware, I checked it on the canon site.

I have a 512mb Kingston...the manufacturer's site states it's 10X write speed.

Ever since I've used it-on the highest quality vid mode I get 30s MAX CAPPED video lengths. So seemingly the buffer is getting maxed/is not writing fast enough to the card and so is stalling.

Now..here's the interesting thing.

This guy I was speaking with says he has a Lexar 4X. He can record his entire 1Gb card in one recording??? ~9mins or so Wow.

I tried my friends 1Gb Lexar Pro 80X w/ Write Acceleration, and it recorded ~2mins..then stopped, I got the exclamation mark then it stopped. There was still space on the card? I think I stopped it myself come to think of it..because all I was trying to see if I was able to exceed the 30s..and so I think yes..I stopped it myself.

NOW HERE'S WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING.

FOR THE FIRST TIME. I took his out and popped mine in. Upon hitting record it recorded 1:40mins!!!!! I was stunned...remember this card has since 6months given me no more than 30seconds of vid length..then out of the blue THIS???

I tried recording again..and it only did ~40s..

I put his back in and recorded a bit more to see maybe the camera was getting confused?? lol

then put mine back in-but it would only record 30s and then would stop.

So...here's my problem? What do I do? Is this normal? Why would a 4X lexar write better than a 10X Kingston? How does everyone elses S1 fair in this matter?

Thanks.

I need to know because I want to send this back to Canon if there's an issue. I really hate this camera.

Although it is the best in class all around...I really like macro and normal living room length/meeting family at the airport distance pics...which this camera sucks at. what a bummer.
