Don't use NiCads. Use NiMh. If you're using fully-charged NiMh and only getting 8 shots then something's wrong with your camera.

I'm very happy with the 2300 NiMh rechargeables I use in my A95. There are now also larger capacity 2500's available that should also work quite well.

Cor.. Makes my 1900 batteries look somewhat miniscule! Yet, I can get 175 photos from them in my Nikon 3100 and probably 150 in my Canon S1 IS.

Oh Yes. That'll be ample. Ordinary AAs are a waste of cash.

I had the same problem with my digital camera, the batteries that came with it didnt last long at all.

It seems like I would take 10 pictures and the battery would need to be recharged. I even got a new battery from the same company and it did the same thing.

What I use now are Energizer L91's, which are Lithium AA batteries. They are not rechargeable, but they last about 7 to 8 times longer than a regular AA.

I have been getting my batteries and having good luck from www.thebetterbatterygroup.com

If this was the case then something was wrong with your camera or charger. There's no camera on the market that only takes 10 shots with a fully charged battery, assuming you had the right battery for your camera. While lithiums will last longer, they're still not economical compared to NiMH batteries.
