View Full Version : Getting a funny sound with my SD400

Hi all,

I finally went out and got an SD400. So far it's just a few hours old. However, I noticed that there's this disturbing sound everytime i turn the camera on or half click to auto focus. It sounds like that sound you get when you put two strands of live wire together...kinda like a sparking sound.

Now i'm completely new to digital cameras so i want to know...Is this sound normal??? Or did i get a bad piece?? Does this sound happen on ALL digital cameras...like during Auto Focus or something???

Please let me know!!

My SD400 makes the exact same sound. At first it sounds like it is breaking, but after time you get used to it. If yours is broken then mine is to.

just got back from the store. The salesguy told me that all canon cameras make that sound but i think that it only applies to the digital elph series. He showed me an SD500 and it made exactly the same crackling sound.

Anybody else have a similar problem with the SD series???

Its not a problem. I get it with my SD500 but i know it's not a problem because i've used 2 other SD500's and they both make the same noise and i've read the manual which says that the noise is normal. The noise is because it's focusing, or whatever.

more probably because aperture change (focusing should be a motor-sound)

I just got the Canon SD400 delivered to my door. I ordered it as a gift for my niece. I opened it, tested it, and immediately noticed the same little sparking sound. :confused: The duration of the sound varies. I was concerned the camera may be defective and began to think I should not have order through the net. :( My concern lead to to seek reviews, lead me to this site and read all your postings. I feel better now.:o
