Budget
* What budget have you allocated for buying this camera? Please be as specific as possible.
$250-400
Size
* What size camera are you looking for? Or does size not matter at all to you?
Somewhere in the middle....not so small to get lost, not so large I need a suitcase to bring it. Maybe "coatpocket" size.
Features
How many megapixels will suffice for you?
4-6
* What optical zoom will you need? (None, Standard = 3x-4x, Ultrazoom = 10x-12x, Other - Specify)
standard.
* How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10)
Image quality is my biggest concern. We're buying the camera for our wedding, honeymoon, married life and hopefully beyond....so mostly I want to have crisp, clear photos.
Do you care for manual controls?
Less important; I'm not sure I'd learn how to use them. Nothing that requires so much set up or knowledge that it takes 10 minutes to set up the photo, but enough so that I could learn how to be a better photographer.
General Usage
* What will you generally use the camera for?
Mostly indoor/low lighting, with the occasional outside excursion. It would need to have good lowl ight capabilities.
* Will you be making big prints of your photos or not?
An occasional 8x10, mostly 4x6 and 5x7. However, those 4x6 usually require cropping to get there.
Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?
yes
Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?
not really
Miscellaneous
Are there particular brands you like or hate?
I have to admit, my research has left me confused; different sites (cnet, consumer reports, dcresource) all often give different reviews of image quality for the same cameras. Family members of mine have taken really nice shots with the nikon coolpix 7900, but I think it may have more megapixels than I need. I've heard not great things about kodak.
Are there particular models you already have in mind?
no
(If applicable) Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD)
Don't need those features, but would like a camera with either a long battery life or AA battery capabilities. I also would like a sturdy camera; I tend to drop things. Movie features are a fun trick, but I'd sacrifice it for superior image quality. Finally, I'd like to be able to use the camera for a while, so something with technology that isn't likely to get phased out.
Thanks in advance. I'd love to hear your comments/thoughts.
